Step-by-Step Instructions
- Combine 1 packet of active dry yeast with 1 teaspoon of sugar and ¼ cup of warm water. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 3 cups of all-purpose flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Pour in the yeast mixture and 2 tablespoons of olive oil, then add 1 cup of warm water. Stir until a shaggy dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
- Gently punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Cover and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Make shallow slashes on top of the dough, sprinkle with toppings if desired, and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow the bread to cool on a wire rack for at least 20 minutes before slicing.
